Mas Mateu is located near one of the most beautiful coasts of the Mediterranean: The Costa Brava. The sea is less than 10 km (less than 6.5 miles) from the property. The house is set within a natural reserve (Les Gavarres), surrounded by culture and history, plenty of well preserved medieval villages. It is the area of Salvador Dalí and some outstanding restaurants. The region is called Emporda known for the locals as the Spanish Tuscany. Emporda is a province neighbouring in the North with France, east with the Mediterranean, west with the local capital of Girona, and in the south is Barcelona.

Mas Mateu is a fully staffed luxury property. Mas Mateu is ideal as a family retreat with children, friends gathering or a corporate retreat.

Horse-lovers will be in seventh heaven too, as the estate includes a prestigious dressage school.

Indoors

Mas Mateu is a grand 18th century Spanish estate. It has retained all the grandeur and style of the elegant mansions of the period while at the same time featuring the most modern of conveniences within its resplendent walls. The house sleeps 22 persons, making it ideal for a private family getaway, friends reunion or corporate retreat. Additionally it can be an excellent venue for any kind of private celebration, anniversary, birthday or wedding. A graceful arched doorway leads into a series of inviting lounges, with magnificent views over the Emporda and the Pyrenees. Cool alabaster walls frame the grand salon’s majestic fireplace.

Outdoors

Dining is a truly Catalan experience at Mas Mateu. Enjoy a Spanish banquet, freshly prepared by the in-house chef, under the stars on one of the many open terraces or eat in the elegant dining room. The region is also home to some of the most celebrated restaurants in Spain, including El Bulli and El Celler de Can Roca, ideal for those rare moments you may feel like venturing outside the estate.
Mas Mateu has extensive facilities, including a dedicated swimming pool complex, gym, football field, basketball court, paddle court, an outdoor barbeque, a summer kitchen housed in an ancient barn, and cinema.

Service and staff

The villa is fully staffed upto yachting standards during your stay at this luxury villa:
Kitchen Departement: Head chef, patissier and dishwasher. Chef assistants depending on the size of the group.
Butler & Waiters Department: Butler/sommelier. Team of waiters depending on the size of the group.
Maid Service with turndown service: Group of maids in shifts from 7.00 am until 21.00 hours. One maid in emergency mode if necessary at anytime

Mas Mateu is a catered property. We will charge you an initial fee of 120€ per person per day in addition to the rental fee. This will cover for a full board service.
The chef will use this money to shop for all meals during your stay. If the money is not fully used, the chef will give you back the difference.
On the other hand, if you have exceeded this amount during your stay, you will be charged the difference. Please inquire with our team for all details.

Location

The landscape of the Empordà is composed of the fields of sunflowers, rice, wheat and cypress trees, protecting apple orchards and fields. Among them there are medieval villages. Its coast combines a great choixe of sea towns, coves with crystal clear water, beaches, rugged cliffs and islands of biological interest such as the Medes. There is also an archaeological site of Ullastret Iberian and Greek and Roman Empúries.
The Emporda is a region with a rich culture and history, heavily influenced by its geographical position, like the border with France at the northeastern fringe of Catalonia and the Iberian peninsula, which has characterized it as a place of passage. The top exponents are Salvador Dali with his three museums and the medieval villages.
All these elements could not be understood without Empordà landscape, most of it protected, the Natural Park of Les Gavarres, the Marshes of the Empordà, Cap de Creus, the marine reserve of les Illes Medes, the Natural Park of the Albera and the Bassegoda area.

Nowadays, the Emporda is one of the top gastronomical areas in the world with the influence of Ferran Adria and his restaurant “El Bulli” in the past, and actually with Joan Roca and his brothers with their restaurant “El Celler de Can Roca”, known as the second best restaurant in the world with three Michelin stars.
